Often referred to as sysadmin, a Systems Administrator is responsible for overseeing and managing computer systems, including servers and networks. They often install and configure new hardware and software, as well as advise on IT policies and system upgrades. They often supervise IT staff and train both IT and non-IT staff.

What skills and qualifications should a Systems Administrator have?

A highly technical role, Systems Administrators need to have a high level of IT knowledge. A tertiary education is not required, but demonstrable experience working within systems administration databases, or network administration is highly recommended.IT certifications including the MSCE, Oracle, Red Hat, and CompTIA Server+ are a plus.Soft skills should include: Problem solving Leadership Critical thinking Customer service Communication Teamwork and collaboration
