What is a competitive salary?
A competitive salary aligns with market standards, reflecting what professionals in your position typically earn. Although having a ‘competitive’ salary may sound reassuring, it is often difficult to know precisely what that means. If you have no experience of a specific job or in a particular sector, you obviously won’t know what professionals in your field earn on average.
Should you negotiate your salary?
A job mentioning a competitive salary doesn't rule out negotiation. During job interviews, you can often secure a higher pay, especially if you're the top candidate. Consider if the offered salary is fair before negotiating. Remember that in salary negotiations, it is not only the gross salary that is important but also any fringe benefits.
